Maine Coons
One of the oldest natural breeds in North America and native to the US state of Maine, the Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat breed.
Vital stats
Personality
Maine Coons are known for adapting to many lifestyles. They fall in a perfect balance of loving and social without being needy. They like to follow you around and are happy to receive attention — but just as happy supervising what you are doing. They are not known for being lap cats; they simply like to be near their family.
The dogs of the cat world
Not only because of their size, but because of their personalities. They are very loyal to their owners and can be wary of visitors. They are extremely playful and love to be silly and clown around.
Size
Clearly this is a large cat breed. Most Maine Coons weigh 9–18 pounds. Males are larger and can weigh in at 20 pounds or more, and they do not reach their full size until they are three to five years old.
Children and other pets
Maine Coons are friendly and laid back, which makes them a perfect choice for families. They are very welcoming of children who treat them politely and can be a great playmate. They will also happily live with cat-friendly dogs.
